All safely down off the mountain after a fantastic 6 days of skiing. Now for getting organised for the journey home.

Thursday 16 February 2012

Our last morning.

It's our last morning, all students packed and getting ready for the last journey to the slopes in Gosau. It's snowing again and temperatures getting more mild.

Presentation evening went well last night with certificates for noticeable skills through the week, race times and special mentions to the most improved skiers.

Race day

Everyone is going to the pizzeria tonight for bowling and pizzas, followed by presentations. We all find out who was the fastest down the course!

After a slight delay this morning, all groups lined up to race the slalom.

Day 5 on the ski trip

Snow has stopped but roads still currently closed. Outlook for the day is sunshine from mid-day. If all goes to plan then today is race day!

Avalanche warning

Weather update - road closed around the lake to the mountains due to high risk of avalanches. Looks like we made the right decision in cancelling the swim trip.

We will keep our ears open tonight for the authorities setting off avalanches in preparation for tomorrow.

A well earned evening meal.

Getting ready for the hungry hoards of skiers. The meals at the hostel are really good and cater for everyone.

Too much snow.

It's been snowing constantly for at least 12 hours now. Conditions up the mountain made skiing really tough for everyone. The roads are being snow ploughed regularly and most vehicles have snow chains fitted, unfortunately we have had to cancel the swimming night tonight due to these difficult conditions.

Snow is set to continue into tomorrow. With a hard freeze overnight conditions could worsen. We have to take into consideration all of the health and safety factors, where ever possible the skiing will go on!

The bus is getting its boots fitted.

Snow chains are getting fitted to the bus.

Snowing today!

Been snowing all night, another 20cm or so already and going to continue all day. Goggles are a must today. Happy skiing everyone!

Ready to win.

Looking for victory on the games night.

Walking wounded

On the mend after trip to the local hospital.

Ice skating cancelled, so let the games night commence!

Party games in the sports hall as the weather scuppered our plans.

Day 3 of skiing was fab!

Lots of snow all day meant that some groups went off piste. Some students found some trees but on the whole everyone progressing well. Still snowing now so ice skating has had to be cancelled due to road conditions.

Beginning of day 3 in Austria

A fresh snow fall overnight and predicted warmer weather of only -9. Conditions will be different as plans for more snow, visibility will be reduced. Hopefully most groups will make it further up the mountain today. Let's ski.

Lost wallet

Wallet found. Anyone recognise it please alert member of ski team staff.

Relaxing in the sports cafe

Sent from S Gibbs iPhone

After a long day of skiing, socialising in the campus sports cafe is just what is needed.

Day 2 of the ski trip

Another lovely day for skiing and not quite as cold. Most students seem to be progressing well although the steep slopes are catching some students on the hop! Had a supermarket stop off on the way back to base, let's hope not too much fizzy pop and junk food is consumed ...

Sunday 12 February 2012

End of day 1 with the ski group in Austria.

Students been using the campus facilities and playing football, socialising in the cafe, watching DVDs and relaxing in their very comfortable rooms.

Student and staff back from the hospital, no broken bones but some very tired faces.

The resort is lovely with ski slopes suited to every ability. Some stunning scenery and picturesque little villages. Wasn't too cold today, only -13!
